DIY Remote Shutter Trigger for Canon EOS 450D (Digital Rebel XSi/KissX2 Digital)

It was many many moons ago when I first came across this fun weekend project. You don't really need a whole weekend to get this done, but it just sounds more interesting to say that. It took me two evenings to get every thing assembled. I could have got it done in an evening, but one connector on one of the push switch broke off and I needed a new replacement.

From the photo above, to your left, you have an uncut film bottle. The fella on the right, which should be very obvious by now, is the finished and working shutter trigger. No schematics here since I'm too darn lazy to draw it out. You can probably find something similar here, one with schematic here, here and here.

Here are some pointers that might be useful if you decide to do this project one day.

The kit that I've bought has 4 wires in different colours, copper, green, blue and red. For my case, the copper coloured wire is redundant, the green is for ground, the blue is for auto focus, while the red triggers the shutter.

If you follow the schematic on this site, you will need to get your subject in focus, before you can trigger the shutter. What that means is that you need to hold down the auto focus push switch and then press the other push switch simultaneously to trigger the shutter.
